Environment: why it is important to renew the Mechanical Technical Review

Colombia-2021. Recently, the State Council asked the ministries to regulate the review also for electric vehicles, who are expected to be able to access a 30% discount. The Technical Mechanical and Pollutant Emissions Review (RTMyEC) consists of a control of the mechanical condition and emission of polluting gases of the car and must be renewed annually.

The RTMyEC is a requirement to carry out any traffic procedure on the motor vehicle. Said certificate is a public document and as such those who fraudulently produce it, or use it, engage in police conduct and criminal penalties are exposed.

Some 2,500,000 vehicles are registered in Bogotá, of which 2,087,000 are required to undergo a mechanical technical review. But of this group, more than 670,000, that is, 32%, do not have the current certificate, reported the District Secretary for Mobility.

To know the date of the last revision of the car, it is necessary to enter RUNT-Citizen Consultation. And to identify the sites authorized by the Ministry of Transportation according to the type of vehicle to be reviewed, you must enter the National Accreditation Body of Colombia ONAC.

“It is not only a legal control mechanism, on the mechanical condition and environmental contamination of all vehicles, cars and motorcycles. It is also a way of protecting oneself, since if the condition of the car is neglected, the chances of starring in a claim are increased ”, expressed Bruno Ferrari, COO of the digital broker 123Seguro, who encouraged drivers not only to do the review, but also catch up with the SOAT.

In addition to reviewing the efficiency of the internal combustion system, the emission levels of gases and polluting elements in accordance with current legislation on the matter. The RTMyEC has the objective of verifying the proper functioning of the car body, the mechanical, electrical and electronic system.

On the other hand, it is in charge of checking the state of the safety elements, of the brakes – especially those that operate with air, it is found that it does not emit acoustic signals above the permitted levels.

Finally, the tires of the vehicle, the emergency elements and, in the case of public service carts, the operation of the devices used to collect are also reviewed.
