Motorcycle insurance: increasing user inquiries
15 February, 2021 0Colombia, 2021. According to the figures published by the Unique National Traffic Registry (RUNT) during 2020, a total of 717,359 vehicles were registered in Colombia, of which 518,529 are motorcycles (72%), 87,659 automobiles (12%) and 111,171 units of other vehicle classes (16%).
With these figures, motorcycles consolidate the first place as the vehicle most chosen by Colombians, representing a total of 59% of the country’s automotive fleet.
In terms of motorcycle insurance, inquiries increased by 15% as recorded by 123Seguro, a digital broker specialized in vehicles, while for vehicles already insured, inquiries increased by the new coverage categories, their scope, extension of the validity and technical assistance the motorcycle stopped for an extended period of time.
The mobility preference in Colombia is also the one with the highest risk: in 2020, 53.2% of the dead and 59.7% of the injured were motorcyclists, according to the National Road Safety Observatory.
This has prompted a new regulation for the use of helmets for motorcyclists in the country that has been in force since January 23.
“The new regulations promote road safety education for motorcyclists in the country, without affecting in any way the coverage provided by the insurance contracted, however, the insured must have the regulatory protection elements duly certified to be able to register their vehicle and consequently to insure your motorcycle ”indicates Bruno Ferrari, COO and cofounder of 123Seguro.
In this sense, Ferrari added that “from 123Seguro we started an active campaign for the motorcycle insured in Colombia in our multiple communication channels so that they understand that the helmet and its correct use is as or more important than the seat belt for passengers Of automobiles.”
The new regulations apply to motorcycles, motorcycles, motorcycles, motorcycles and ATVs, and it has three keys:
- The user’s head must be completely immersed in the helmet, in addition to being fastened through a retention system.
- Mobile communication devices or any type of telephone that is interposed between the helmet and the user’s head may not be carried.
- Helmets with a movable lower face cover, called “flip-up” or “modular”, must be properly closed.
In this context, the changes in mobility introduced by the pandemic and the possibility of resolving inquiries through multiple channels, consolidated motorcycle insurance policies as an ally for education in risk prevention, which can contribute to reducing the number of motorcyclists in road accidents.
