Description
The Honda CBR1000RR is the great bet of the Japanese brand in the 1000 sports segment. Completely renovated in 2017, this supersport has three versions: standard, SP and SP2 and new colors in 2018.
The CBR1000RR is a light bike -16 kg less than the previous one-, thanks among other things to its aluminum chassis, which has received improvements to achieve greater agility and stability. The fork is from the Showa brand, 43mm in diameter, and can be adjusted just like the rear shock, also Showa. The swingarm is also made of aluminum. As for the brakes, we have Tokico four-piston radial calipers.
The CBR1000RR 2018 has three driving modes: Track, Winding and Street. Each offers different combinations of the HSTC and the engine brake. Bidirectional quick change, like the SP, is available as an option.
Through the liquid crystal TFT display, the driver has all the information, and this is offered in a different way, depending on the chosen vision: Road, Circuit or Mechanic. The pilot is the one who decides how he wants to see the information using a command located in his left hand.
Among the available information, it stands out that of the instantaneous and average consumption, fuel consumed, average speed, time elapsed since the last time the engine was started, plus the remaining fuel since the reserve light was turned on, thus such as the distance that can be traveled with the remaining fuel, over-speed indicator to change gears, angle of inclination, battery status, calendar …
The Honda CBR1000RR SP mounts different components than the standard version, especially in suspensions, where semi-active Öhlins components appear, with a TTX36 shock and a NIX30 fork that allow all kinds of regulation. Another difference between one and the other model is the quick change system, which allows up and down gear without clutch.
The motorcycle has six riding modes, three manuals (Street, Circuit and Mechanic), in which the rider can make personal adjustments, and three active ones, in which the motorcycle adapts to riding conditions and the Rear Lift Control system (RLC), which keeps the rear wheel steady under braking. This RLC works in conjunction with the C-ABS Combined Braking and Curved ABS systems.
The chassis does not present too many new features, maintaining the advance (96mm) and the launch angle (23º), but the rigidity has been modified, thus achieving greater sensitivity and stability when cornering. The subframe and swingarm have been lightened, although the latter is more robust than the previous one.
The SP2 version is a new nomenclature in the CBR1000RR range and is externally differentiated by being fitted with ultralight Marchesini rims, although the deep changes to the motorcycle are more vital in view of its final objective: to be the basis for evolving racing motorcycles for SBK : Valves, combustion chambers and pistons have been redesigned. In addition, Honda offers a kit for use on the track.
