Description

Forty-eight years of history. This is the letter of introduction of the legendary 90-degree V-cylinder at 90 degrees of Moto Guzzi developed by the engineer Giulio Cesare Carcano. Since its first appearance in the V7, this legendary engine has been assembled into many different versions and types of motorcycles.

The Moto Guzzi Eldorado is the third evolution of the 90 degree V-engine. It was 1972. Just two years earlier, following a surprising offer from the V7 750 c.c. for the Los Angeles Police Department, known by its initials LAPD, when the first Moto Guzzi California was born and, on that basis, its luxurious Ambassador model.

In constant growth of displacement, the Carcano twin cylinder rose from 700 to 757 c.c. and with a third increase in displacement, came the 850c.c. version, the engine with which the Eldorado was born, in order to replace the Ambassador, being an even more complete and finished model; luxurious but also capable of delivering power and greater driving satisfaction.

Objective surely achieved: “If the Roman gods had driven motorcycles, the Moto Guzzi Eldorado would have been Bacchus’ choice.” This is how the American magazine Cycle World defined the late 1960s, the latest evolution of the 90 ° V-Twin engine with cardan transmission that the Italian brand had just presented in the United States.

The metaphor effectively extolled the emotion felt by the presence of a modern, imposing, sumptuous and fast motorbike built in great detail and rewarding in handling.

More than forty years after this extraordinary experience, history repeats itself in form and content with the new Eldorado. The Eldorado 1400, it is clear that it preserves all the Moto Guzzi personality of its historical past, projecting it into the future by way of technology and style.

It is a motorcycle that, even when stopped, evokes epic trips of hundreds of kilometers in perfect symbiosis between the rider and the motorcycle, as an essential component of the soul of Moto Guzzi. A motorcycle with a strong Italian identity that proudly ran as a global traveler to all latitudes, capable of evoking all spaces, from coast to coast, crossing distant continents.

This is how it is presented by its designer Miguel Galluzzi, who heads the Piaggio Group design center in Pasadena (PADC): “After having reached 94 years of Moto Guzzi’s glorious history, a new wave of passion led us to explore new horizons for such a noble brand but without forgetting the most important milestones A great respect for tradition, combined with the investigation of the best possible technology and the purest Italian design, guides us today towards the creation of the best Moto Guzzi that has ever been made .

In the search for new horizons, we understood that there should be not only technique but also a new driving experience. All this is mixed in the soul of the new Moto Guzzi Eldorado: a motorcycle designed to evoke emotions of driving pleasure, owning them and observing every detail like no other motorcycle can do. ”

Flashbacks illuminate every detail: spoke wheels, oversized seat, rear fender with its gem-type headlamp or cowhorn handlebars. Even the fuel tank is full of references: the double paint is reinforced by a characteristic drop with polished chrome mirror treatment. The painting (Eldorado is available in Black and Classic Red) is reinforced by a double white thread protected with varnish that makes its shapes stand out.

The fenders and side covers are also reinforced by a double white thread protected with varnish, which ends with a refined “brush tip” effect.

The Moto Guzzi Eldorado logo is stylistically reminiscent of the unforgettable Eldorado 850. In addition, the passenger seat is mounted with a chrome handle with integrated handle: if necessary it can be removed to leave much more room for luggage. The Eldorado’s spoke wheels, with sixteen-inch wheels and the classic white stripe on the sidewall (130/90 front and 180/65 rear), draw attention to the new, wraparound fenders. The rims are polished aluminum with the usual 3.5 ” (front) and 5.5 ” (rear) grooves: a true work of art capable of matching the style of the classics to the most modern tire technology without camera. The front is very “clean” in design to reinforce the powerful front and the rear, on the contrary, is the most distinctive feature of the elegant Moto Guzzi style. Its smooth, firm shapes are complemented by covered dampers, gem-type taillights, and classic round turn signals.

The Eldorado is recognizable by its original poly-lipid headlamp with DRL LED lights. Continuing with digital technologies, the instrumentation is particularly satisfactory, framed in a 150 mm diameter circular dial with the analog tachometer scale around the outer circumference and the multifunction display in the center, all wrapped up, like a luxury watch. , in a shiny chrome outer ring.

In Eldorado the pilot feels comfortable. Located just 740 mm from the ground, the new seat, together with generous flat footrests and its comfortable position on the handlebar, made of biconical steel and shaped like a cow’s horn, is in itself an invitation to sit down, press the Start and let the “asphalt flow under the wheels.”

If the road is an endless country road you can activate the cruise control by pressing the button on the right handlebar switch and roll listening to the V-Twin’s heartbeat at 90 ° with all its noise filtered by the elastic kinematic anchors of the engine, knowing that, in case of need or pure personal satisfaction, the drive shaft will be ready to unload on the ground up to 120 Nm at 2,750 rpm.

Without technical modifications, the twin cylinder confirms its monumental architecture, reinforced by the black painted valve cover with the Moto Guzzi logo made by laser and thick thick cooling fins made with the same manufacturing technique as the stirrup supports. of the passenger.

The engine is the absolute benchmark for the category in terms of displacement, performance and fuel consumption, thanks to excellent thermodynamic efficiency and its advanced Ride-by-wire multimap advanced electronic management system. This technology allows you to choose between three types of engine map: Tourism, Fast and rain.

Not only that, but the vehicle dynamics are controlled by the presence of the latest generation Traction Control (MGTC), adjustable in three intervention levels to increase active safety and without compromising performance and driving pleasure. The Eldorado’s chassis has been developed with the aim of improving precision and ease of driving: the rigidity of the structure, the choice of tires, the progress and the tare weight of the suspensions are perfectly harmonized to maximize driving satisfaction. from Eldorado to unknown levels for a motorcycle with similar characteristics.
