Description

It has a new front optical group with two superimposed optics, a sharper design “duckbill” fin and a large screen that is mechanically adjustable in three positions, after which a mixed analog-digital instrumentation that also shares with the “thousand”, although with the red line of the rev counter a little higher (10,000 rpm in this case). It has also received a new subframe, with a seat of renewed shapes that is very comfortable in both seats and that facilitates the handling of the motorcycle at low speed because it is narrower at the front, in accordance with the remodeled tank. Likewise, the rear has been prepared to mount suitcases with ease and it has been achieved that they protrude less to the sides than in the previous version. In this part, a new LED optical group and a rack made of plastic resin have also been incorporated, whose surface is at the same level as the passenger seat area and thus facilitate the task of carrying luggage when using it alone.

The engine is the well-known 645 cc 90º V2, but it has received up to 60 new components. With them, it has adapted to current regulations and announces a slight increase in performance starting at mid-range, declaring 71 CV, a figure that is 2 CV higher than that of the previous version. Another relevant novelty is that it incorporates an effective traction control similar to that of the V-Strom 1000, adjustable in two positions and disconnectable, and that receives information from five sensors placed on wheels, accelerator, crankshaft and gearbox. It also has a 12V outlet and an assistant that facilitates low-speed use, slightly increasing the engine speed when driving very slowly or when pressing the clutch lever. On the other hand, it benefits from new Bridgestone Battlax Adventure A40 tires, which give it great agility and good grip.

In this presentation we have had a V-Strom 650 in the “XT” version, which is distinguished from the normal one by including spoke rims with gold lacquered rims and prepared to mount tubeless tires, as well as hand covers and a material keel Plastic that somewhat protects the underside of the engine. In addition, the unit used has a large part of the body decorated in yellow, a color chosen to recall the successes achieved by the brand in motocross and which is also reminiscent of the DR-Z and DR-Big with which Suzuki competed in many rallies. in the past.

If you measure around 1.80 m and even a little less, it is easy to reach with both feet on the ground when you settle on your seat. The bike is narrower in the leg area with the idea of facilitating maneuvers while standing still and at low speed. When starting it, everything is sweet and smooth, with a very low mechanical noise, making it clear that Suzuki controls this engine very well, which translates into a very successful operation, with a touch of those who say “butter”. The clutch is pressed with little effort and the gear is actuated in the same way, also being fast, precise and very low noise. Once the wheels start spinning, smooth running is the dominant tonic, even when you keep the engine spinning at maximum speeds. The propeller pushes with certain forcefulness and in a constant way. The truth is that for a “six and a half” it has its character and responds without much delay from just 2,000 rpm. Logically, with 71 hp it is difficult to get you in trouble, but in the case of driving on surfaces with little grip, the new traction control, which acts in a very inconspicuous way, helps us to drive with greater safety and confidence .

On the other hand, the driving position is spacious and very natural, although at the same time it connects us very well with the set and allows us to control it perfectly. Thanks to the wide handlebar and the fast reaction of the front axle, it is very easy to direct it towards the required point and at the same time it allows correcting lines without problems. This V-Strom is easy to drive both at low speed and when we pick up the pace. Suzuki has introduced touch-ups on the suspensions and they surprise by the good balance they offer. On the one hand, they are comfortable and absorb irregularities well, and on the other, they allow a joyful ride with vigorous braking, without the bike sinking excessively in front and hardly breaking down. Although it allows you to travel on tracks without too many complications, it makes it clear that it is a very asphalt trail that is very focused on use and enjoyment on all kinds of roads. For this, he gives us very good protection from the knees to the head.
